The Mets beat the Giants, 2-0, at AT&T Park on Sunday, salvaging a split of the four-game series in San Francisco over the weekend. New York has recorded 10 shutouts in 2016 -- fourth in MLB (Cubs, Dodgers and Phillies all have 11).

The Cardinals throttled the Phillies, 9-0, on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, taking two of three over the weekend in Philadelphia, and winning for the sixth time in their last seven games overall. St. Louis has shut out eight opponents in 2016 (tied for sixth in MLB).

St. Louis took two of three from New York in these clubs' first meeting of the season at Citi Field (July 26-27). The Cardinals, who haven't lost a home series to the Mets since 2007, are 18-8 at home vs. New York since 2008.

Jonathon Niese made his first start as a Met last Wednesday in Arizona, giving up four runs (all earned) in 4.2 IP, and taking the loss. Niese is 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA in four career road starts vs. the Cardinals.

Jaime Garcia allowed five runs (all earned) in 5.0 IP a week ago in Houston, but the offense bailed him out, and he won his third straight start. Garcia is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three career home starts vs. the Mets.

The Cardinals went deep four times in Sunday's triumph, recording their tenth 4+ homer game of the season -- most in the NL, and second most in MLB overall (Orioles -- 14). St. Louis leads the National League with 173 home runs in 2016.
