The Yankees were blanked, 2-0, by the Angels in Anaheim yesterday, snapping their four-game road win streak in the process. New York is 4-1-1 (.750) in its last six road series -- the second-best mark in the majors since July 7.

Seattle allowed four ninth-inning runs and lost, 7-6, to the Brewers on Sunday at Safeco Field, and snapping its eight-game home win streak with the setback. The Mariners are 20-8 (.714) in their last 28 games at Safeco Field -- tied with the Cubs for the best home record in the majors since June 24.

The M's took two of three from the Yanks in these clubs' first series of the season in the Bronx (April 15-17). New York has defeated Seattle eight straight times at Safeco Field, allowing three or fewer runs in each of those victories.

Michael Pineda threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball versus Blue Jays six days ago, but the Yankees bullpen couldn't hold the lead, and he was saddled with his second straight no-decision for the effort. Pineda had a season-low two strikeouts Tuesday -- his fewest since recording the same number against the Mariners over one year ago (July 18, 2015).

Cody Martin allowed two runs (both earned) in 4.1 IP last Wednesday against the Angels, getting a no-decision in his first start for the Mariners. Martin, who will be facing the Yankees for the first time tonight, is 0-2 with an 11.32 ERA in three career MLB starts.

Robinson Cano went 0-for-5 yesterday, but still managed to knock in two runs, giving him 79 RBI on the season -- the same total he had in 156 games last year. Cano is batting .368 (7-for-19) with two homers and six RBI in his last five games against the Yankees.

Yankees-Mariners preview

SEATTLE (AP)  It took little time for Yankees' rookie Gary Sanchez to receive the type of respect normally reserved for established veterans considered among the elite hitters.
Seven home runs in the past nine games will quickly earn anyone respect. And in the case of Sanchez in Wednesday's 5-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners that torrid stretch led to him receiving two intentional walks just so the Mariners could face Mark Teixeira instead.
