The Astros and Pirates have played just one series since Houston moved to the American League in 2013. Pittsburgh took two of three games at home in May of that year.

Pittsburgh was swept in three games at home versus the Marlins over the weekend, after having won six of its previous seven games. The three losses versus Miami came by a combined four runs.

Houston scored a combined 32 runs in winning the last three games of a four-game series at Baltimore ending Sunday. The Astros have scored 12 or more runs in a game eight times this year, most in the majors.

Jose Altuve is hitting .407 this month (33/81), with 20 RBI in 19 games. His .365 batting average for the season is 20 points better than anyone else in the majors (DJ LeMahieu, Col and Daniel Murphy, Was - .345), and 45 points better than any other AL hitter (David Ortiz, Bos - .320).

Doug Fister's eight road wins this season (8-3 record) are tied for second most in the American League, behind the Rangers' Cole Hamels (9-2). Fister is 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA (7/30.1) in five career starts versus the Pirates.

Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen and Gregory Polanco are tied for the team lead with 17 home runs apiece. They are one of two MLB teams without a 20-home run hitter this season, along with the Giants (led by Brandon Belt, 14).

PITTSBURGH -- After splitting the first two games of their interleague series, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros will meet for the series finale Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park.
Pittsburgh's quiet bats awoke in a dominant 7-1 win against Houston Tuesday, while the Astros (65-61) shut down the Pirates (63-60) in a 3-1 victory the night before. Something will have to give Wednesday, with each team attempting to gain ground in their respective wild-card races.

Evan Gattis hit his 20th home run and Carlos Correa got two hits and scored twice, leading Collin McHugh and the Astros over the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4.
