Boston lost to the Tigers, 4-3, at Fenway Park on Wednesday, dropping all three games to Detroit in the process. It was the Red Sox' first time being swept in a home series since the Indians did so, October 2-4, 2015.

The Angels fell, 7-5, to the Royals on Wednesday in Kansas City, finishing up a six-game road trip with a mark of 2-4. Los Angeles has won six straight home games since the All-Star break by a combined score of 40-16.

These two franchises met earlier this July, with the Red Sox taking two of three in Boston. The Angels swept four from Boston in Anaheim last season, holding the Sox to just four total runs in that series..

David Price did not receive a decision last Saturday, allowing five runs over just 5.2 innings against the Twins. Price has allowed 22 hits over his past two starts -- the most in any two-game span of his career.

Jered Weaver picked up his eighth loss of the season last Saturday, allowing six earned runs over just four innings in Houston. Weaver's two strikeouts over his past two starts are his fewest ever in a two-game span.

Xander Bogaerts homered on Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to nine games, his second-longest hitting streak of the season (26 games from May 6-June 2). Over his current streak, Bogearts is batting .447 with a 1.067 OPS.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Tyler Skaggs will pitch at Angel Stadium for the first time in two years Sunday when the Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox conclude their three-game series.
The left-hander, who turned 25 on July 13, returned to major-league action Tuesday night in Kansas City after spending the past two years recuperating from Tommy John surgery. In his start against the Royals, Skaggs conceded just three hits and one walk in seven shutout innings while collecting five strikeouts in the Angels' 13-0 romp. Skaggs threw 63 of his 88 pitches for strikes.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)  Rick Porcello gave the Boston Red Sox just what they needed.
Porcello pitched a five-hitter for his first complete game since 2014, Xander Bogaerts homered and drove in three runs, and the Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 on Friday night, snapping a four-game losing streak.
