The Nationals (including seasons as the Montreal Expos) and Indians have split 12 previous meetings, with the last six games each played at Cleveland (2010 and 2013). The longest winning streak by either team in the series is just two games, which has been accomplished on one occasion by each club.

The Nationals are 9-3 against the American League this season, which translates to the franchise's highest winning percentage (.750) versus the AL since the Montreal Expos went 12-3 (.800) in the first year of interleague play in 1997.

The Indians lost three games at Baltimore this past weekend, when they endured their first series sweep since going 0-3 at Kansas City, June 13-15. Since ending their 14-game winning streak on July 1, the Indians are just 7-11.

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians and Washington Nationals will conclude their brief two-game series on Wednesday afternoon at Progressive Field. Both teams are struggling of late.
Even with their dramatic 7-6 victory thanks to a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning in the first game of the series Tuesday, the Indians are just 5-5 in their last 10 games. The Nationals, meanwhile, have lost six of their last eight.

CLEVELAND (AP)  Stephen Strasburg's losing streak was short lived.
Washington's ace easily shut down Cleveland for seven innings and bounced back from his only loss this season, leading the Nationals to a 4-1 win over the Indians on Wednesday.
