The Angels and Astros have played each other nine times this season. After the Angels took the first game of the season series on May 27 in Anaheim, Houston has responded by winning the other eight. Four of the eight Astros wins have come in their last at-bat.

The Angels extended their active winning streak to six games (all at home) by knocking off the Rangers on Wednesday, 7-4. This is the longest winning streak of the season for the Angels, and they haven't had a longer home winning streak since 2014 (eight-game home winning streak in August and September of 2014).

The Astros blanked the A's in Oakland on Wednesday while also scoring seven runs of their own. It was just Houston's fourth shutout of the season, after doing so 13 times in 2015 (2nd in AL to the A's, who had 15).

Despite getting just one run of run support, Matt Shoemaker shut out the White Sox at home in his last start, going all nine innings and punching out thirteen. He became the first AL pitcher this season to throw a complete game shutout with at least thirteen strikeouts.

Lance McCullers took the tough-luck loss in his last outing, holding the Mariners to just one run over 5.1 innings in Seattle. McCullers also struck out eight, bringing his K/9 up to 11.55 on the season. That mark leads the AL (min. 60 IP) and ranks second in all of baseball to Miami's Jose Fernandez (13.30 K/9).

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 in his last game, marking his sixth multi-hit game in his last 14. On the season, Escobar has 35 games with at least two hits, which is the most on the Angels.

HOUSTON -- Seeking their third consecutive series sweep of their American League West rivals, Houston sends right-hander Mike Fiers to the mound against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, with Fiers' recent struggles playing a contrasting role in the Astros' overall aspirations.
Fiers (6-4, 4.75 ERA) is 0-1 with a 17.18 ERA against the Angels this season, having allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings in a 7-2 loss on May 27, the Astros' lone loss in the season series. He is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.
