The Padres were swept in a four-game series in St. Louis for just the third time in franchise history and the first since July 17-20, 2008. San Diego dropped the finale yesterday, 6-5, despite holding a 4-1 lead after seven innings, their first loss this season when leading after seven innings.

The Nationals lost two out of three to the Dodgers in the nation's capital, with Stephen Strasburg suffering his first loss of the season in the rubber match. The Dodgers scored four runs in the third inning, but the Nationals are still tied for the MLB lead with the Giants and Cubs for the fewest multi-run innings allowed with 81.

Matt Kemp's streak of consecutive games played with a home run ended at four yesterday. The last Padre to homer in four straight games was Adrian Gonzalez, who did so from April 21-25, 2010.

Roark faced the Padres earlier this season in San Diego on June 16, giving up four runs (all earned) over 6.0 innings, picking up the win in an 8-5 Nationals win.

Luis Perdomo is making his first career appearance against the Nationals. Perdomo has made eight starts this season and has a 6.08 ERA as a starter, but has made four consecutive starts allowing no more than three earned runs.

WASHINGTON (AP)  Stephen Drew returned to the Washington Nationals after a multiday illness sapped strength and pounds, then found enough energy for a timely hit Saturday night.
Drew hit a game-ending RBI triple in the ninth inning to give the Nationals a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres .
