The Tigers throttled the Marlins, 10-3, at Comerica Park yesterday, sweeping the two-game series, and improving to 6-3 in their last nine contests. Detroit has scored 10 or more runs six times since May 16 -- tied with Baltimore for second most in the majors (Toronto -- 8).

Tampa Bay beat Boston, 4-0, on Wednesday, taking two of three from the Red Sox since an 11-game losing streak, June 16-26. Yesterday's shutout was the Rays' fifth of the season -- tied with the Mariners and White Sox for second most in the AL (Indians -- 7).

The Tigers took two of three from the Rays in the clubs' first meeting of the season (May 20-22 at Comerica Park). Dating to June 6, 2013, Detroit and Tampa Bay have split the last 10 games at Tropicana Field, each winning five times.

Jordan Zimmermann allowed a season-high tying seven runs in just 3.2 IP last Friday against the Indians, taking the loss, and failing to garner his 10th win of the season for the second straight contest. Zimmermann is 1-1 with a 3.06 ERA in three career starts vs. the Rays.

Jake Odorizzi went 5.0 innings and allowed five runs (all earned) last Saturday in Baltimore, garnering his third straight, and MLB-high 10th no-decision of the season. Odorizzi is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers.

Detroit has swept seven series in 2016 -- tied for third most in the majors. Tampa Bay has been swept seven times this season (also tied for third most in MLB).

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- With the All-Star Game fast approaching next week, it's natural for teams to evaluate their progress at the unofficial halfway point of the season. That Detroit won its third straight against host Tampa Bay on Saturday marked what the Tigers hoped to be a turning point in a thus-far mediocre season.
Detroit has pounded out 23 runs on so far this series, which concludes on Sunday. Second baseman Ian Kinsler made note of the good feeling the team shares lately, but added the pitching staff has just as much to do with the team's success as its bats.

Cameron Maybin capped a dramatic eight-run ninth with a tiebreaking three-run double, and the Tigers overcame a five-run deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-7 on Thursday night.
