Kansas City won three of four games at Houston when the Royals and Astros first faced off this season in April, holding the Houston offense to exactly two runs in all three of the Royals' victories. Before that series, four of the previous five regular-season series between the two teams had ended in a sweep by one team.

The Astros beat the Angels, 3-2, on Wednesday, completing the three-game series sweep and extending their winning streak to five games. This was their fourth straight victory in one-run games and 26th one-run game on the season (most in the AL).

After exploding for a season-high 16 runs on Saturday, the Royals have been held to just six runs combined over their last three games. Kansas City is coming off of a two-game series in which it was swept by the Mets, losing each game by just one run.

Dallas Keuchel held the Reds to just two runs over seven innings in his last start on Saturday, but he did not record a decision. It marked the 14th time in his 15 starts in which he received four runs of run support or fewer, tied with Jose Quintana for the most such starts in the AL.

Edinson Volquez allowed five earned runs to the Tigers in his most recent start on Saturday, but still received the victory because the Royals' offense scored 16 runs in the game. Volquez is 6-0 with a 2.70 ERA in nine career regular-season starts versus Houston.

Jose Altuve got on base three times in his most recent game on Wednesday versus the Angels, including his 37th and 38th walks of the season. Despite appearing in 73 games, Altuve already has more walks in 2016 than in any of his previous three seasons, and is just two shy of his career-high set in 2012. Altuve now has a .425 on-base percentage this season, second in the AL to just David Ortiz (.431).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Alex Gordon is back in the Kansas City lineup after missing 30 games with a right wrist fracture and is expected to be there again when the Royals try to salvage the finale of their three-game series with the Houston Astros on Sunday.
Manager Ned Yost immediately inserted Gordon in the second hole in the batting order, while dropping shortstop Alcides Escobar from two to eight.
