The Nationals, who are 9-5 on the road versus the Cubs since the start of the 2012 season, have not lost a road series versus the Cubs since losing two of three games at Chicago from August 9-11, 2011. Washington won two of three road games versus the Cubs last season.

The Nationals beat the Royals, 13-2, in the series finale on Wednesday, recording a season high 16 hits in the game en route to their most runs scored in a single game since scoring 13 runs in a 13-3 home win versus Miami on September 20 of last season. Washington is now 14-0 this season when it allows two or fewer runs.

The Cubs swept their three-game series at Pittsburgh earlier this week, racking up at least 10 hits in each game. Prior to that series, the last time Chicago swept an opponent while recording at least 10 hits in every game was when they swept a three-game series versus the Brewers in Chicago from September 1-3, 2014.

Anthony Rizzo has hit safely in each of his last eight games versus the Nationals, tied with the Braves for his longest active hit streak versus any single opponent. Rizzo has recorded multiple hits in each of his last four games versus Washington, tied with the Brewers (May 10 -- August 1, 2015) for his career-long multi-hit streak versus any opponent.

Joe Ross took the loss in his only career starts versus the Cubs, a 4-2 home loss in his MLB debut on June 6, 2015. That loss is one of just five career losses for Ross, who is 3-0 this season (Washington is 4-0 this season when he starts); Ross has not lost multiple games versus any single opponent over his career.

Kyle Hendricks is 5-1 with a 2.43 ERA versus NL East opponents over his career (1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two career starts versus the Nationals).
