The Royals rallied from four runs down in the eighth inning of Game 4 to stave off elimination and force Game 5 back at home. It was only the eighth time in history that a team won a postseason game when down by at least four runs in the eighth inning or later. Kansas City was also the last time pull this off, coming back against Oakland in the 2014 AL Wild Card Game.

The Astros are 2-3 all-time in winner-take-all games, including their win in this year's AL Wild Card Game over the Yankees. It will be the fifth straight winner-take-all game played on the road by Houston, owning a record of 2-2 in the last four. The last time the Astros lost consecutive games with a chance to clinch a series was Games 6-7 of the 2004 NLCS.

The Royals are 3-3 all-time in winner-take-all games. Prior to losing Game 7 of last year's World Series at home to the Giants, Kansas City had won three straight winner-take-all contests. The Royals are looking to win consecutive games when facing elimination in the same series for the first time since Games 5-7 of the 1985 World Series.

Collin McHugh is tasked with the Game 5 start for the Astros. Unlike Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura, McHugh returned to the mound after the rain delay in Game 1, allowing two runs over six innings while picking up the win. McHugh joined Mike Scott, Shane Reynolds, and Roy Oswalt (twice) as the only right-handers in Astros history to win a postseason game on the road while tossing at least six innings with two runs allowed or fewer.

Johnny Cueto gets the Game 5 start for the Royals following a no decision in Game 2. This will be Cueto's fifth career postseason start, as he is still in search of his first postseason win (0-2, 5.52 ERA). In his last five starts at Kauffman Stadium (postseason included), Cueto is 1-3 with a 7.33 ERA and .330 opponent batting average.

Carlos Correa went 4-for-4 with two home runs in the Game 4 loss. Correa (21 years, 20 days) became the youngest player with a multi-homer game in the postseason since Atlanta's Andruw Jones (19, 180) in Game 1 of the 1996 World Series. Correa's 11 total bases not only set an Astros postseason record, but they were the most by a rookie in postseason history.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  The Royals traded away three top prospects to acquire Johnny Cueto for the playoffs, even though his winning pedigree has been established almost entirely in the regular season.
He'll have an opportunity to change that Wednesday night.
