Since MLB expanded its wild-card teams to two per league and the Wild Card Elimination Game was established in 2012, the visiting team has won four of the six Wild Card Elimination Games, outscoring the home team by a combined total of 14 runs over the six games (33-19). The visiting team is 2-1 in the AL Wild Card Elimination Game over that span, with the 2014 Kansas City Royals being the only AL home team to win (beat the Athletics, 9-8).

The Astros went 4-3 (.571) versus the Yankees this season, just the second time in franchise history that Houston has won the season series versus New York (went 4-2 in 2014). The Astros took two of three games versus the Yankees when they met for a three-game series in New York this season (August 24-26), scoring 15 runs in the second game of the series on August 25 (Houston's most runs scored in a single game at Yankee Stadium all-time; the Yankees scored just 17 runs in the entire season series versus Houston).

Through games of September 25, the Astros were tied with the Angels with 74 losses and sat just a half a game ahead of Los Angeles for the second AL wild-card playoff spot (had 80 wins to the Angels' 79). From that point on, Houston went 6-2 and outscored its opponents by 22 runs (57-35) en route to clinching the second AL wild-card playoff spot (the Astros' first time making the postseason since being swept by the White Sox in the 2005 World Series).

The Yankees made the playoffs with just 87 wins this season (87-75). The last time the Yankees made the playoffs with 87 or fewer wins was in 2000 (defeated the Mets four games to one in the World Series after finishing the regular season with 87 wins).

Alex Rodriguez finished 2015 with 33 home runs, his 15th MLB season with at least 30 home runs (tied with Hank Aaron for the most all-time). Rodriguez finished the season at age 40, becoming just the third player all-time to hit 30 or more home runs at age 40 or older (age at the end of the season); the others are Barry Bonds (45 in 2004, age 40 at the end of the season) and Darrell Evans (34 in 1987, age 40 at the end of the season).

This season, Evan Gattis became the only player all-time to record at least 10 triples in a season (11) without stealing a base.

Dallas Keuchel went 20-8 this season, the first Astros pitcher to win 20 or more games in a single season since Roy Oswalt went 20-12 in 2005. Prior to Keuchel, the only Astros pitcher to win at least 20 games while losing fewer than 10 in a single season was Mike Hampton, who went 22-4 in 1999. In three career starts versus the Yankees, Keuchel is 2-1 with two complete games, a 1.13 ERA and 26 strikeouts to just one walk.

Masahiro Tanaka has totaled 280 strikeouts through just his second MLB season, the second most by a Yankees pitcher through two career MLB seasons all-time (Orlando Hernandez -- 288). Tanaka allowed six earned runs in his only career start versus the Astros (June 27, 2015 at Houston), the most he has allowed in a single game in his MLB career.

Dallas Keuchel and Masahiro Tanaka have each never pitched in the postseason (MLB postseason).

''I play with a chip on my shoulder,'' Keuchel said Monday at Yankee Stadium. ''I think a lot of the guys do in there as well. And we'll always carry that.''

NEW YORK (AP)  A year ago, no one could've pictured this. Yet here they were, Dallas Keuchel and the Houston Astros, soaking in champagne, merrily posing for a victory shot on the mound at Yankee Stadium.
