The Orioles went 13-6 versus the Yankees last season, but are just 7-9 versus New York this season. If the Orioles sweep the Yankees in this final series of the season (a three-game series), Baltimore will have won the season series versus New York in consecutive seasons for the first time since doing so in three straight from 1980-82.

The Orioles won, 6-4, on Thursday despite getting just one inning from their starting pitcher, Tyler Wilson. Prior to Thursday's win, the last time Baltimore won a game with one or fewer innings pitched by its starting pitcher was September 13, 2010 versus the Blue Jays (won, 4-3, in 11 innings despite getting just one inning from their starting pitcher, Brian Matusz).

The Yankees clinched a playoff spot with their 4-1 win over the Red Sox on Thursday, snapping their two-season postseason drought in the process, New York's longest postseason drought since missing the playoffs in 12 consecutive seasons from 1982-93 (excludes 1994 because there was no postseason).

Manny Machado hit two home runs and stole two bases in Thursday's win, joining the Reds' Brandon Phillips as the only players to hit at least two home runs and steal two or more bases in a single game this season (Phillips did so on July 30 versus the Pirates -- exactly two of each).

Luis Severino has held opponent batters to a .190 batting average with runners in scoring position since he made his MLB debut on August 5, the fourth-lowest opponent batting average with runners in scoring position among AL pitchers with at least 45 batters faced with runners in scoring position over that span.

Wei-Yin Chen has totaled 21 strikeouts and just three walks this September. Prior to Chen, the last Orioles pitcher to strike out at least 20 batters and walk fewer than five in a calendar month was Darren O'Day in July 2014 (20 strikeouts and three walks).
