The Braves dropped a 7-3 decision to the Marlins at Turner Field yesterday, and have now lost a season-high eight straight games overall. Atlanta is 0-9 on the road since August 11, getting outscored by a combined 58-25 in those setbacks.

Washington defeated St. Louis, 4-3, at Busch Stadium last night, snapping its two-game losing streak, and winning for the seventh time in the last 11 games overall. The Nationals are 19-16 (.543) in one-run affairs this season -- eighth best in MLB.

Atlanta took two of three from Washington at Turner Field the last time these clubs met (June 30-July 2), winning its first series of the season vs. the Nats in the process. The Nationals are 6-0 at home vs. the Braves in 2015.

Matt Wisler allowed just two runs in 6.0 IP last Saturday vs. the Yankees, but got zero runs of support for the third straight game, and dropped to 0-4 with a 7.85 ERA in his last six starts. Wisler is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two career starts vs. the Nationals.

Jordan Zimmermann went 7.0 innings and allowed just one run last Saturday vs. the Marlins, winning his third straight game for the second time of 2015 with the performance (also June 30-July 11). Including 18.2 consecutive scoreless IP, Zimmermann is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his last five starts vs. the Braves.

Ryan Zimmerman went deep twice in last night's victory, giving him at least one homer in three straight games, and seven bombs and 18 RBI in his last nine contests overall. Zimmerman, who is riding a six-game hitting streak vs. the Braves, has hit a home run in four consecutive games just once in his MLB career -- August 3-7, 2009.

It remains to be seen if the Washington Nationals dug too deep a hole during an August swoon to catch the New York Mets in the NL East race.
At least they still have hope after a strong start to September.

WASHINGTON (AP)  Nationals manager Matt Williams passed up his first few opportunities to use outfielder Michael Taylor on Friday night.
When he did send him in, it worked to perfection.
