The Cardinals have won each of their last two series versus the Giants in San Francisco dating back to April 2013, going 4-2 versus the Giants and outscoring them, 29-14, over that span. What's remarkable is that 27 of St. Louis' 29 runs scored did not come via home run; the Cardinals hit just one home run over the six games (a two-run home run by Johnny Peralta on July 3, 2014).

The Cardinals beat the Diamondbacks, 5-3, on Thursday in Arizona to complete their four-game series-sweep of the D-Backs, and outscored Arizona, 22-8, over the four games. The four-game road series-sweep is the Cardinals' first since sweeping the Brewers in Milwaukee from May 2-5, 2013.

The Giants had 10 hits in their 9-1 win over the Cubs on Thursday and are now leading the NL with a .268 batting average. If they can hold on to the NL-lead in batting average through the end of the season it will be just the third season since moving to San Francisco in 1958 in which the Giants have led the NL in team batting average (also 1962 and 1993).

Rookie Kelby Tomlinson hit his first career home run on Thursday versus the Cubs, a grand slam off of James Russell. Prior to Tomlinson, the last Giant to hit a grand slam as his first career home run was Brandon Crawford, who did so on May 27, 2011 (his first career game) off of Milwaukee's Shaun Marcum.

Mike Leake has allowed two or fewer runs while walking two or fewer batters in each of his last six starts, the second-longest active streak in MLB (Washington's Stephen Strasburg -- eight). Over that span (since July 10), Leake has posted a 1.06 ERA while walking just 1.49 batters per nine innings.

Since July 31, Michael Wacha is 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA in five starts (the Cardinals are 5-0 in those five starts).  Among pitchers with at least five starts over that span, Wacha's 1.09 ERA is the second lowest (the Cubs' Jake Arrieta -- 0.54).
