The Angels won two of their three games against the Indians earlier this month, despite hitting just .176 in the series. Since 2010, the Angels and Indians have been closely matched at Progressive Field with the Indians having the slight advantage, winning 10 of 19 games.

The Indians swept the final game of a two-game series against the Brewers on Wednesday, scoring a combined 17 runs with a .444 on-base percentage in the games. Cleveland has a 2.92 ERA (88/271.1) and 259 strikeouts (8.63 SO/9) in 30 games against the AL West this season.

After being held to just one hit by Justin Verlander in the previous game, the Angels' Matt Shoemaker, Joe Smith, and Huston Street combined to limit the Tigers to just two hits yesterday afternoon. The Angels are batting just .219 as a team this month -- the second-lowest team batting average in August (New York Yankees, .218).

Andrew Heaney suffered the worst loss of his career last Saturday against the Blue Jays, giving up eight earned runs and seven hits over 3.1 innings. Heaney has never faced the Indians but has a 2.31 ERA (3/11.2) in two career starts against the AL Central.

Last Saturday, Danny Salazar surrendered four earned runs and eight hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings in the Bronx. In eight starts since July 10, Salazar is 4-3 with a 1.99 ERA (12/54.1) and 54 strikeouts -- his ERA over that span is the second-lowest in the American League (Sonny Gray, 1.93 ERA).

Francisco Lindor is 13-for-23 (.565) with two home runs and six RBI over his current six-game hitting streak. Lindor's .387 batting average in the month of August ranks third in MLB (minimum 50 plate appearances, Miguel Cabrera -- .460, Michael Brantley -- .407).

While the Cleveland Indians are slugging their way back into wild-card contention, the Los Angeles Angels are within a game of falling back to .500 for the first time since late June.
