The only time the Rays faced the Red Sox in Boston earlier this season (May 4-6), Tampa Bay won two of the three games and held Boston to just six runs. The six runs allowed by the Rays are their second fewest allowed at Boston in any series of three games or more all-time (held the Red Sox to just five runs in a three-game series at Boston from August 16-17, 2011).

Despite their 2-1 home loss versus Detroit on Wednesday, the Rays still won the three-game series against the Tigers, 2-1 -- their first series win since the All-Star break (1-3 series record). Tampa Bay is now 6-10 (.375) in home games decided by one run, the second-lowest win percentage in MLB (Oakland is 5-14, .263, in one-run home games).

The Red Sox beat the White Sox, 8-2, on Thursday but dropped the four-game series, 3-1, allowing 53 hits in the series in the process (the third-most hits allowed by any team in any single series this season).

After failing to get a hit in his first game versus the Red Sox this season, Evan Longoria has recorded at least one hit in each of his last eight games versus Boston, batting .375 against the Red Sox over the eight-game hit streak. Longoria has hit three home runs while posting a .343 batting average versus the Red Sox this season, the fifth-highest single-season batting average by any Ray with at least three home runs versus Boston that season.

Since May 30, Erasmo Ramirez has posted a 1.04 road ERA, the lowest road ERA by any pitcher with at least five road starts over that span. Over those five road starts, Ramirez is 3-0 and the Rays are 5-0 in his starts.

Since July 1, the Red Sox have won each of Eduardo Rodriguez's three home starts, with Rodriguez going 2-0 and posting a 1.96 ERA in the process. However, Rodriguez has struggled in his three home starts versus AL East division rivals this season, going 1-2 with a 10.43 ERA.

BOSTON (AP)  James Loney knows it always feels better having a lucky hit at the right time.
Asdrubal Cabrera had a game-tying RBI double and then scored on Loney's bloop single in the eighth inning, and the Tampa Bay Rays avoided a three-game sweep with a 4-3 comeback victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.
