The Mariners lost, 8-2, at home to the D-backs yesterday, getting swept in a 3+ game series for the fourth time of the season in the process. Including each of its last two contests, Seattle has allowed eight or more runs 16 times in 2015 (seventh most in MLB).

Minnesota dropped a 10-4 decision to Pittsburgh at Target Field yesterday, and has now lost four straight games by a combined score of 33-18. The Twins are just 3-8 since the All-Star break -- second worst in MLB (Boston -- 2-11).

The Twins took two of three from the Mariners in these clubs' first series of the year at Safeco Field (May 24-26), and are 7-3 vs. Seattle since the beginning of 2014 overall. Minnesota is 10-9 all-time against the M's at Target Field.

J.A. Happ is just 1-4 with a 5.34 ERA in his last 12 starts, including three straight no-decisions (3-1, 2.98 ERA in first seven starts of 2015). Happ is 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA in two career starts vs. the Twins.

Phil Hughes threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball last Friday vs. the Yankees, earning the win, and improving to 5-0 with a 2.44 ERA in his last seven outings overall. With a win in this contest, Hughes will record 10 or more victories in back-to-back seasons for the first time in his career (16-10 record in 2014).

Aaron Hicks went 3-for-5 with an RBI yesterday, and is now batting .526 (10-for-19) with a homer and eight RBI during his current five-game hitting streak. Hicks has at least two hits in four straight games -- the longest multi-hit streak of his career, and tied with Eddie Rosario (July 10-17) for the longest of any Twin this season.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  A tough season forced the Seattle Mariners to become sellers at the trade deadline. Taijuan Walker then showed why the future looks promising.
Walker pitched a one-hitter for his first career complete game in 29 major league starts, and Nelson Cruz and Jesus Montero homered to lift the Mariners over the Minnesota Twins 6-1 on Friday night.
