The Padres and Angels squared off in each season from 1997 through 2001, but have played only three series against each other since 2002 (prior to this meeting). The Padres lead the all-time series, 13-12, and the hit totals in the all-time meetings are very close, with the Angels having three more (231-228).

The Padres pounded out 20 hits in Sunday's 11-3 win at Dodger Stadium, giving them a second 20-hit effort in 2015 (they previously had 20 hits against the Giants on April 11). All other MLB teams combined have three 20-hit performances in 2015, with no other team having more than one. This is the first time since 2011 that San Diego has had multiple games with 20-plus hits in a single season.

Since April 23, the Angels have the lowest home ERA in baseball, 2.16, and lowest opponent batting average at home, .194. Over that same time period, the team's road ERA is 4.51, and the Angels are allowing opponents to hit .262 away from Angel Stadium.

Since 2010, Matt Kemp is hitting only .182 against the Halos, with 27 strikeouts and only 12 hits (12-for-66). Prior to 2010, Kemp was a career .295 hitter against Halos pitching.

David Freese leads the Halos with 27 RBI in 2015 despite hitting just .224; he has the third-lowest batting average in MLB among players with 25-plus RBI. Freese is batting .206 with the bases empty, compared to .254 with men on base.
