The Cardinals and Dodgers have met in the postseason on four occasions. While the Cardinals emerged victorious in the 1985 NLCS, the 2004 NLDS and 2013 NLCS, the Dodgers beat St. Louis in the 2009 NLDS.

The Cardinals are only the fifth team in National League history to reach the postseason when hitting the fewest home runs of any NL team that season; all four previous clubs reached the World Series, and three of them won the championship, including the Dodgers in 1965 and Whitey Herzog's Redbirds in 1982.

Going back to 2008, the Dodgers have won nine of their last 10 games played in the National League Division Series. Unfortunately after each of their three NLDS victories in 2008, 2009 and 2013, the Dodgers lost the NLCS in each postseason.

In 2014, Clayton Kershaw became the first pitcher since 1913 -- the first season that ERA was an official stat in both leagues -- to lead MLB in ERA in four straight seasons. Kershaw won 21 games this year in only 27 games pitched. Only Fred Goldsmith (21-3 in 26 games) back in 1880 posted 21+ wins in fewer games pitched in a season.

The face-off between Clayton Kershaw and Adam Wainwright is the first in the postseason in 45 years between two guys with 20-plus wins and ERAs under 2.40. Wainwright has been superb on the road this season, posting the lowest road ERA (1.72) by a Cardinal starter since Bob Gibson had a 0.81 road ERA in 1968.

Known almost exclusively for his defensive skills early in his career, Yadier Molina (.307 since 2011) is one of only two catchers (Buster Posey .311) with a .300 average over the last four seasons (minimum 1000 PA).

Adrian Gonzalez (860 RBI since 2007) has driven in at least 99 runs in every season since 2007, and ranks second only to Miguel Cabrera (965) in total RBI over that period.
