The Yankees took three of four from the Red Sox when the clubs met in New York April 10-13. But the Red Sox have won their last three, and four of their last five, home games in this series.

New York is 5-5 on the road so far this season. The Yankees are averaging 4.1 runs per game in those contests, but have hit a home run in just two of the 10.

Boston has struggled at the plate with runners in scoring position so far this season. The Red Sox are batting just .209 with RISP overall and .178 with RISP and two outs. Those averages rank 25th and tied for 23rd, respectively, in MLB.

It would be unusual to see many free passes issued by today's scheduled starting pitchers. Masahiro Tanaka leads all qualifying starting pitchers in the American League in strikeout-to-walk ratio, having walked just two batters and struck out 28 in 22.0 innings of work (14.00). Jon Lester, meanwhile, ranks fourth among AL qualifying starting pitchers with a 7.25 K/BB ratio (4 BB, 29 K in 29.0 IP).

Jacoby Ellsbury will be playing his first game at Fenway Park as a visiting player; he is a lifetime .308 hitter at that park. Ellsbury, who had 241 stolen bases in his seven seasons with Boston, has eight SB so far in 2014 -- which is exactly how many the Red Sox have managed as a team.

Carlos Beltran went 6-for-15 (.400) with four runs scored, four extra-base hits (including two home runs) and four RBI against the Red Sox in the series at Yankee Stadium earlier this month. He is a lifetime .327 batter at Fenway Park, with four homers and 16 RBI in 25 games.
