National League Game Summary - Milwaukee at Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Khris Davis' solo home run in the top of the 14th inning helped the Milwaukee Brewers to their third straight win over the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 3-2 decision on Sunday to wrap up a four-game set.

Davis slammed the second pitch he saw from Jeanmar Gomez (0-1) over the left- field wall to give the Brewers the lead.

Zach Duke (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win and Francisco Rodriguez earned his seventh save of the season. Rodriguez is now tied with Tom Henke for 19th place on the all-time saves list with 311.

Mark Reynolds and Ryan Braun also connected on solo shots earlier in the game, with Braun's dinger tying the game in the top of the ninth.

Jason Grilli, who blew his second save of the season on Saturday, gave up the game-tying homer to Braun in the ninth on Sunday, a day after Braun got the best of Grilli with a two-run homer that proved to be the difference in Milwaukee's 8-7 win.

Brewers starter Marco Estrada allowed six hits and one run over six innings of work with four strikeouts.

Milwaukee has taken six of seven over the Pirates this season.

"It's great to win those games," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "It's really hard to lose those games. It was a really good ballgame."

Neil Walker went 3-for-6 with a solo home run and Jose Tabata added the other run with an RBI single in the eighth for Pittsburgh, which has lost five of its last six overall.

Pittsburgh starter Gerrit Cole pitched a career-high eight innings and was in line for the win before Grilli blew his second save in as many days. Cole allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts.

"A professional job," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Cole's performance. "He just did everything. The fastball was just better up, down, in, out, all over the place."

Walker broke the scoreless tie with a deep home run to right field with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.

Cole took the shutout into the eighth when Reynolds stroked a homer to right- center field to tie the game at 1-1.

Ike Davis poked a single into center with two outs in the home half of the eighth to get a rally going for the hosts. Will Smith replaced Jim Henderson and Walker greeted Smith with a bloop single into right that put runners at the corners. Tabata then chopped one up the middle where Scooter Gennett made the play but couldn't get enough on the throw to get Tabata at first and the Pirates took a 2-1 lead.

"To lose a game against three solo homers, your closer threw 10 pitches and 10 strikes, it turned out to be a tough day at the office today," said Hurdle.

Earlier, benches cleared and punches were thrown after Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez tripled off Cole in the third inning. Gomez flipped his bat on a long drive to center field that hit off the wall, falling short of a home run.

After Gomez slid into third, Cole appeared to say something as he walked back to the mound after backing up the base. Gomez took off his helmet and moved in Cole's direction as the benches cleared and a scuffle ensued.

"It's too hard for me to see exactly what happened," said Roenicke on the scuffle. "I do know Cole said something to him, but next thing you know someone's going after (Gomez) and I don't know what happened after that."

Gomez had to be restrained by umpires and players and appeared to throw at least one punch before he was ejected.

"Our guys wanted to make sure Cole was protected and that's kind of how we run our club," said Hurdle.

Pittsburgh's Travis Snider also was ejected and Pirates catcher Russell Martin had to be escorted back to the dugout by a teammate as he jawed with Gomez. Neither player was in the Pirates starting lineup. Gomez was replaced by Elian Herrera in center.
