The Giants are coming off a series win (2-of-3) over the Dodgers and have won three of their last four games. Seven consecutive Giants' games have been decided by one run. The seven straight one-run games are the most consecutive one-run games for the Giants in over 100 years. The 1910 New York Giants had eight consecutive games decided by one run from August 11-17, 1910.

The Padres have won five of their last eight games. San Diego is the only team in the majors that has yet to score more than six runs in any game. The Padres' 16 games to start the season scoring six runs or fewer are their most to begin a season since starting the 1989 season with 22 consecutive games scoring six runs or fewer.

Hunter Pence is coming off a 5-hit series versus the Dodgers and is 9-for-his-last-27 (.333) after the starting the season 4-for-36 (.111).

In his last six games against the Giants, Chris Denorfia is hitting .400 (10-for-25) with two home runs and six runs batted in. Denorfia's 13 runs scored versus San Francisco in 2013 were the most by any player against the Giants.

With tonight's start at San Diego, Matt Cain will have already seen the other four NL West teams in his first four starts of the season having already faced the Diamondbacks, Dodgers and Rockies in his first three starts.
