The Baltimore Orioles have plans to pursue arguably the top free agent on the market this season, Josh Hamilton, according to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports.

Hamilton, who is reportedly seeking a contract in the neighbourhood of $175 million over seven years, hit .285 this year with 43 home runs and 128 RBI for the Rangers.

The Orioles, coming off a surprising season finishing with a 93-69 record, are also considering outfielder Cody Ross to play left field.

The addition of Ross or Hamilton would be a major upgrade over Nate McLouth or Nolan Reimold heading into 2013. Centre Field is set with Adam Jones, while right field is patrolled by Nick Markakis.
