UPDATE: The Blue Jays will send pitcher David Carpenter to Boston to complete Farrell transaction, according to WEEI.com. Mike Aviles will be player heading to Toronto from Boston.

UPDATE 2: The Blue Jays have confirmed David Carpenter was traded for Mike Aviles.

Compensation in the John Farrell to Boston transaction has been reported by several sources to be shortstop Mike Aviles. Although no official word by either the Red Sox or Blue Jays has confirmed this, Aviles took to twitter to all but confirm the move.

Last season, Aviles hit .250 with 13 home runs in 136 games for Boston. His 128 hits were the third best total of his career.

Aviles may be an option at second base for the Blue Jays next season if the club decides to hold on to Yunel Escobar for 2013. Rookie Adeiny Hechavarria made a good impression defensively during his call up, but may start next season in Buffalo.
