Back injury sidelines Johan Santana for season
The New York Mets have shut down starting pitcher Johan Santana for the remainder of the season due to inflammation in his lower back, the team announced on Wednesday.
Since throwing the franchise’s first no-hitter on June 1st, the former Cy Young Award winner has struggled, going 3-7 with a 8.27 ERA in 10 starts. This is the second time this season that Santana has been sidelined; the Mets placed the left-hander on the 15-day disabled list on July 21st with a sprained ankle.
