Report: Dodgers in line to land Dempster or Garza
The Los Angeles Dodgers are considered the favourites to land Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster, but now it seems as though the Dodgers are also interested in Cubs pitcher Matt Garza, according to CBS Sports.
Dempster, 4-3 through 13 starts, entered into the All-Star break with a National League-leading 1.99 ERA. He has only made one start since landing on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, but Dempster has currently thrown 27 straight scoreless innings.
Garza has been less successful than Dempster this season, but he is still being pursued by multiple teams. The Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays are all reportedly in the hunt for Garza. He is 4-7 with a 4.32 ERA through 16 starts this season.
The Dodgers, and their new ownership team, are expected to be aggressive players heading into the July 31 trade deadline.
