Phillies land Hunter Pence at $10.4M for 2012

The Philadelphia Phillies and outfielder Hunter Pence have avoided arbitration by signing a one-year, $10.4 million deal.

Pence earned $6.9 million last season with the Houston Astros and the Phillies. The former second-round draft pick hit 22 home runs and had a career-high 97 RBI. Pence's .314 batting average ranked ninth in the league.

The 28-year-old will be eligible for arbitration in 2013 before joining the free agent market. He was also the last arbitration-eligible member of the Phillies.
