Luis Enrique: Athletic Bilbao 'are one of the few sides to have thrashed us'
Back in August, Athletic Bilbao did what almost no other club has done in the past decade, humbling Barcelona with a 4-0 beating before going on to win last year's Supercopa de Espana in shocking fashion.
Barcelona exacted revenge to a certain extent days later, defeating Athletic 1-0 on the first matchday of the ongoing La Liga season. However, the memory of the Basque club's battering is, of course, ingrained into the mind of Luis Enrique as the two sides prepare to take the pitch together once again.
"They're one of the few sides to have thrashed us, plus they prevented us from lifting a sixth trophy," Enrique said, according to Marca.
By the time the end of January rolls around, Barcelona and Athletic will likely be sick of each other. In addition to Sunday's La Liga fixture, the two clubs were drawn together in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, guaranteeing another two matches between both sides that will take place on Jan. 20 and Jan. 27.
