Barcelona reached an agreement with Benfica on Tuesday that will see the 20-year-old left-back join the Portuguese club in a transfer valued at €1.5 million, and in which the Catalan side retains the right to a share of any future sale.

Grimaldo joined Barcelona's Under-14 team in 2008 from Valencia. He was then an attacking midfielder, but evolved into a left-back. Grimaldo was only 17 years old when he started featuring for the Barca B team, which he leaves as its captain and with 92 official appearances under his belt.

The Barca B team only lost one of 17 fixtures this season in which Grimaldo took the pitch; he tallied two goals for good measure.

Upon putting pen to paper on a contract that is valid until the end of the 2020-21 season, Grimaldo said: "They told me that Benfica wanted to count on me for the winter transfer window and I'm very happy. It's a great club. To come to this club is always very special ... it's very special! It's a very big opportunity to be with two of the world's greatest clubs, where I can win titles."
