By the numbers: Real Madrid's 10 goals vs. Rayo Vallecano put other teams to shame

Reuters

Real Madrid's epic 10-goal romp against Rayo Vallecano is a rare occurrence, as double-digit goals don't come easy. Real Madrid scored more goals than there were Rayo players on the pitch after a pair of red cards left the visitors short-handed.

If there's one thing this Real Madrid team is good at, though, it's scoring. Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale usually finish matches with their names written all over the score sheet.

Here's how the 10 goals compare with the efforts of other teams around the world:

In Madrid's 65-minute goal-scoring window, Rafa Benitez's side scored as many goals as Malaga has mustered all season, with nine over 15 La Liga games.

For Premier League outfit Aston Villa, the number 10 looks awfully nice. A 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Saturday gave the club only seven points in 17 Premier League games.

Combine those last two woes and for French side Troyes, you get a total season's worth of goals equaled (10) and points surpassed (8) by Real Madrid's 10 splendid strikes.

Real Madrid's 10 goals Sunday equals Liverpool's combined total goals produced by Christian Benteke, Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, Jordon Ibe, Adam Lallana, and James Milner in the 17 games played thus far in the 2015-16 Premier League season. Jurgen Klopp, sign another striker.

Manchester United's goal-scoring woes have been exposed in recent months, so it doesn't help that Real Madrid scored, in one day, what the Red Devils have notched in the last two months' worth of games. Manchester United has 10 goals over the last 12 games in all competitions, dating back to a 0-0 draw against Manchester City on Oct. 25.

Compounding that misery, Madrid also matched in one day the combined season tally of Manchester United's attacking trio of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, and Juan Mata.

Real Madrid scored the 10 goals at its home stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu. Conversely, Inter Milan has scored 10 goals at the San Siro ... over the course of the entire season up to this point. Apparently the term "home-field advantage" doesn't apply to everyone.

The truest test of success is personal growth, though, and Real Madrid's 10-goal haul shows a tremendous change in its fate: in the last four games of the season, Madrid scored 20 goals, better than the combined total from the first 11 games of the season (19 goals).

Madrid's also matching history:

For Bale, the match versus Rayo Vallecano marked his personal best goal tally with four.
