Who would have guessed Thomas Vermaelen would be among the leading scorers for Barcelona after two games?

No one, that's who.

The former Arsenal captain, who virtually missed all of his debut season with the Spanish giants through injury, opened the scoring Saturday to give Barcelona the lead over Malaga.

The Belgian center-back took advantage of a fortunate rebound as the ball fell to him at the penalty spot, but the job was far from over as Vermaelen skillfully pulled off a perfect volley to break the deadlock.
