Villarreal reaches agreement with Tottenham for transfer of Roberto Soldado

Roberto Soldado's disappointing stint at White Hart Lane is officially over.

Villarreal reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur on Friday that will see the 30-year-old return to La Liga on a three-year contract with the Yellow Submarine.

According to ESPN FC, the transfer is valued at £10 million, less than half of the club-record £26 million that Tottenham paid for the striker in August 2013.

Soldado, who reportedly flew to his native Spain on Thursday morning to finalise the deal, joined Tottenham in August 2013 and went on to suffer two miserable seasons with the club. He was unable to crack its starting XI and scored only seven Premier League goals, four of which came from the penalty spot.

At Villarreal, Soldado will look to replicate the numbers he posted at Valencia, where he averaged 17 goals per season over the course of three La Liga campaigns before making the move to Tottenham.

Following official confirmation of the transfer, he took to Twitter to thank Tottenham supporters for his Premier League experience, writing: "Back to La Liga! These two years have been difficult for me, but I wouldn't change this experience for nothing in the world. I am sorry for not being able to meet the expectations that Tottenham had put on me.

"I felt at home from the first day. I can only give many thanks to Tottenham for allowing me (to) represent the best club in England. Thanks for the elegance and treatment received from all the staff, from my teammates and the fans, that didn't stop cheering and supporting me every second I was in the pitch, THANKS."

A presentation will be held for Soldado at Villarreal's Ermita de la Mare de Deu de Gracia, an event that will be open to the public.
