Sergio Garcia will leave Espanyol to join Qatari club Al-Rayyan
RCD Espanyol is a club without a captain, as the Catalan club announced Monday that Sergio Garcia will be leaving the Estadi Cornella-El Prat to join Qatari side Al-Rayyad SC.
Garcia, 32, joined Espanyol from Real Betis in 2010. He notched 14 goals and nine assists through 35 appearances in the 2014-15, as his side finished in the upper half of the La Liga table.
Espanyol thanked their captain for his service on Twitter, writing: "Good luck, captain! Thank you for everything!"
Players from Espanyol were also quick to send their wishes to Garcia, as Felipe Caicedo wrote: "Without a doubt one of the best players that I've seen and with whom I've shared a dressing room. Many blessings in the next stage, captain Sergio Garcia."
Alvaro Gonzalez, meanwhile, wrote: "Until you return Captain, we're waiting for you enjoying all the good you've left behind. A pleasure playing with someone so great."
