Copa del Rey final to be played at Camp Nou
The venue for the final of the Copa del Rey was revealed Wednesday, and it will provide one of the finalists with the ideal location to potentially win the competition.
Both Barcelona and Athletic had asked for the match to be played at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu in order to have the maximum number of tickets available.
However, Real Madrid never submitted a request, and the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol opted for the Camp Nou over Athletic's San Mames Stadium, Valencia's Mestalla Stadium and Sevilla's Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
This year's final will mark the third time in six years that the Copa del Rey final has featured Barcelona and Athletic. In 2009, the Catalan club emerged with a 4-1 win at the Mestalla Stadium, while in 2012, they defeated Athletic 3-0 at Atletico Madrid's Vicente Calderon.
