Cristiano Ronaldo chooses Nike over his own footwear brand
That was close!
Millionaire Cristiano Ronaldo almost became less of a millionaire when Nike threatened to end their contract with the Real Madrid superstar because of his bright idea to launch his own sports shoes, which is a breach of his lucrative contract because he would be in direct competition with the sportswear giant.
In response to the launch of the CR7 footwear collection last week, Nike gave Ronaldo an ultimatum to discontinue his association with the shoes or end his €9-million a year contract with the American sportswear company.
Ronaldo, who launched the football shoes with Portuguese company Portugal Footwear at Las Vegas and Milan fashion shows, chose to discontinue the training shoes, according to Pete Jenson of the Daily Mail.
He will only associate his brand with loafers and business shoes, as well as other pieces of clothing that Nike doesn't seem to mind.
Just not the shoes!
