Liga files complaint regarding Nou Camp chants mocking Cristiano Ronaldo

The findings of an investigation into taunts at the Nou Camp directed at Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo were submitted to the Professional Competition Committee on  Tuesday by the Liga de Futbol Profesional (LFP).

The profane chants took place Saturday during Barcelona's victory against Levante at the Catalan stadium, with a portion of supporters belting out a song about Ronaldo's behaviour at his birthday party earlier this month.

The section of fans labelled the Portuguese player as a drunk after videos and images showed him celebrating with friends and family following Real Madrid's 4-0 derby loss to Atletico Madrid.

The LFP decided to submit its findings after viewing the video evidence of the incident and released the following statement:

The shouting of chants within the stadium, during the game, in minute 65 from a group of around approximately 200 home supporters located in the lower stand behind the south goal, which the home side were attacking, identified by scarves, banners and flags of various home team fan clubs and, in particular, the group known as ALMOGAVERS, located with a banner identifying the group, started to sing the following chant: “¡ES UN BORRACHO, CRISTIANO ES UN BORRACHO!”, in reference to the Real Madrid CF player Cristiano Ronaldo, in a repetitive, choral and coordinated form exclusively by the aforementioned group, without being taken up by the rest of the spectators present in the stadium, and whose behaviour was completely correct during the whole game

The commission has the ability to hand out bans and fines for those found guilty of instigating such chants and other offences.
