Dortmund star Marco Reus expected to miss 4 weeks with partially torn ankle ligaments

The sight of Marco Reus writhing on the ground in pain has become all too familiar in recent months, while the sight of the German forward flying up and down the pitch and dazzling supporters with his vast array of skills has become increasingly seldom of late.

The Borussia Dortmund star was forced to watch as his German teammates hoisted the World Cup this summer, missing the tournament - in which he was expected to play a massive role - with torn ligaments in his left ankle.

When Reus, 25, was forced to leave Germany's Euro 2016 qualifying match against Scotland on Sunday favoring his left foot, the writing seemed to be on the wall for another lengthy absence.

Monday, his club side confirmed the sobering news.

Dortmund announced that their star forward is expected to miss four weeks of action with partially torn ligaments in the same ankle.

The revelation means that Reus, who looked to be back in full flight with a pair of goals in as many Bundesliga matches this season, will miss at least two Champions League games, including the highly-anticipated clash with Arsenal on Sept. 16.

While Dortmund do have a wealth of attacking talent in the squad, particularly after the return of Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United, Reus' absence will obviously be a massive blow for Jurgen Klopp and company.
