Report: Real Madrid 'keeper Diego Lopez nearing move to Monaco

The signing of Keylor Navas is already having a major impact at Real Madrid.

Just one day after Costa Rica's World Cup hero signed a six-year deal with Los Blancos following a transfer from Levante, reports are emerging that incumbent shot-stopper Diego Lopez is closing in on a move to French side Monaco - with a gentle push out the door from the European champions.

Spanish newspaper AS (via ESPN FC), is reporting that the 32-year-old is on the verge of signing a three-year contract worth €5 million per season with Monaco, though there are still some details that need to be ironed out pertaining to his contract with Real Madrid.

ESPN explains:

The European champions are reluctant to pay him the severance package he is due for breaking his contract, but the player and his agent have refused to negotiate. They are demanding compensation for the three years remaining on his contract, which is worth 2.1 million euros a year.

While it is bound to bring up suggestions of a deal for Falcao, the report from AS notes that Lopez's transfer would be completely independent of any potential move Real may make for the Colombian striker.
