Xavi hopes to coach Barcelona one day

After a marvellous career as Barcelona's midfield conductor, Xavi now hopes he can handle the club's managerial reins.

The Catalan product represented the Blaugrana more than any other player in the club's history, and filled his trophy cabinet with eight La Liga titles, four Champions League honours, and three Copa del Rey crowns.

Now seeing out the remainder of his career in Qatar, the 37-year-old has visions of winning more silverware as manager of the storied outfit.

"My aim is to arrive as a coach at Barcelona. You never know what will happen, it's not only up to me," he told L'Equipe, as quoted by ESPN FC's Ian Holyman. "It depends on what you're capable of, the situation, the moment, the circumstances. But my objective, what I want to do, it's certain that it's to work for FC Barcelona."

Xavi signed a one-year contract with Al Saad in January, meaning he will remain with the Qatar Stars League side until 2018.

In the meantime, Barcelona is on the lookout for Luis Enrique's successor. Enrique announced he will step down following three successful seasons at the helm, leaving the position vacant for the 2017-18 campaign.

That will most likely come too early for Xavi, who wants to follow the lead of former players like Enrique and Pep Guardiola in becoming a coach and lend his vast football knowledge to Barcelona's next wave of talent.
