The venue for the Copa del Rey final between CD Alaves and Barcelona has been confirmed, with La Liga announcing Monday that Atletico Madrid's home ground, the Vicente Calderon stadium, will once again host the event this year. The match is scheduled for May 27.

The Vicente Calderon stadium hosted the Copa del Rey final between Barca and Sevilla last season, with Luis Enrique's side claiming its 28th title by way of a 2-0 victory.

Spain's royally-inspired footballing tournament is the oldest of its kind in the country and the Vicente Calderon has hosted the final 13 times prior to this upcoming tilt between Barcelona and Alaves.

It's a fitting tribute to the venue, which was built in 1966 originally under the name Manzanares Stadium. It was renamed to honour Atletico Madrid's famous club president Vicente Calderon in 1971, and is set to be retired by the club. Atletico will move to its new digs, the 70,000-seat Wanda Metropolitano, scheduled for opening in 2017.

The latest Copa del Rey final could, therefore, be the final major event held at the stadium before it's redeveloped into a park.
