Juventus killer Giovanni Simeone 'would love' to play for Atletico

Fresh off a two-goal performance in Sunday's shocking 3-1 win over Juventus, Giovanni Simeone revealed he'd love the opportunity to play for his father's Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year-old doubled his tally on the season to four goals following his killer first-half display against the Bianconeri at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Proud dad Diego couldn't help but notice the similarities between him and his son, posting on Twitter a picture of the two celebrating in identical fashion.

And after Giovanni's recent remarks, speculation over a move to Atletico is bound to multiply.

"I would love to play for Atletico. Not just because of how the club has treated my father but because of how they have treated our whole family," Simeone Jr. told Spanish radio, courtesy of ESPN FC's Adriana Garcia. "They are a great club, very humble."

The result was vital for a Genoa side that hadn't yet won a match in November.

The young Argentinian poacher joined the Grifoni from River Plate in the summer after playing for his country at Rio 2016.

He also represented the Albiceleste at the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship, where he finished as top scorer.

Should he continue to find the back of the net, a transfer to Spain - where Giovanni was born - could potentially happen before Simeone Sr. decides to leave town.

In charge of Atletico for the past five years, Diego's side has managed to break through the Barcelona-Real Madrid axis and become a viable challenger in both La Liga and the Champions League.

A second heartbreaking loss to Madrid in May's continental showpiece forced Diego to reconsider his future with the club, and in September he shortened the length of his contract by two years to 2018.
