Valencia's Parejo: 'Neymar was wrong to taunt crowd'

Dani Parejo condemned the fan that threw a bottle toward Barcelona players when they celebrated a late winner against Valencia on Saturday, but says Neymar was also in the wrong because he taunted the Mestalla crowd.

In a charged meeting between the two teams, Barcelona was rewarded with a last-minute penalty that was duly converted by Lionel Messi beyond spot-kick expert Diego Alves. The projectile then struck Neymar in the Barca huddle, but Parejo attests this is partly the Brazilian's fault.

"Neymar was wrong to taunt the crowd," the midfielder told LaSexta, with translation from Marca. "The fan was wrong to throw the bottle, but so was Neymar.

"It's a difficult moment and not the time to provoke people. You may be happy because you're taking three points home with you, but do not think you have to antagonise others."

It's not the only time Neymar's conduct has been called into question recently. The Brazilian star was left bloodied when he represented his country against Bolivia in October, and the player who injured him, Yasmani Duk, declared that Neymar should drop the "cocky" attitude.

He added: "To become the best player in the world, he's got to stop this 'Charlie Big Bollocks' behaviour and start showing some respect for his opponents."

Neymar, along with Messi and Luis Suarez, was rested for Tuesday's Catalunya Super Cup bout with Espanyol, but is set to return for Saturday's visit from Granada.
