Javier Mascherano has finally put pen to paper on his contract extension with Barcelona, as the Blaugrana formally announced Monday that the Argentine veteran will indeed remain at the Camp Nou through June 2019.

Mascherano, 32, had agreed to the new deal back in July, and finally inked the new agreement at the club's headquarters.

The midfielder-cum-central defender has called Catalonia home for seven seasons, making 290 appearances with the club since his move from Liverpool.

Though his presence in the starting lineup could be on the wane in the coming years with the summer arrival of Samuel Umtiti, the tenacious tackler and vocal leader continues to see minutes alongside Gerard Pique at the heart of the club's defence.

Mascherano has made five La Liga appearances (four starts) thus far this season - aided, of course, by an injury to Umtiti - and will be keen to continue adding to his already bloated trophy cabinet.

The Argentine international, nicknamed El Jefecito (the little chief), has won 17 trophies during his time with Barcelona, including four league crowns and two Champions League titles.
