Chelsea was prepared to back up the Brinks truck to bring forward Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge before he decided to carve out at career at Real Madrid.

The coveted Spanish forward revealed that of all the teams attempting to secure his signature this summer, Chelsea was the most enthusiastic as the Premier League side was prepared to pay a significant price for the 23-year-old.

It was a chance for Morata to reunite with his former coach at Juventus, Antonio Conte, as the new Chelsea manager attempted to thwart Arsenal's reported advances to sign him during the transfer period.

"Chelsea showed the most interest," he told Sport Bild. "Antonio Conte had already signed me for Juventus.

"And it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever."

Instead, Morata chose to fight for a place in Madrid following a successful loan spell with Juventus, including his impressive display in France during the European Championship with the Spanish national team.

Morata added Chelsea's offer was in the region of €70 million, but a promise from Real manager Zinedine Zidane that he would have an opportunity to feature in the first team put an end to the English side's pursuit.

Morata has found the back of the net just once In four league appearances for Real this season.
