Zidane admits James dilemma is problematic

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has conceded that the James Rodriguez stalemate isn't an ideal situation, but so long as the Colombian international is in Los Blancos' ranks, he's as valued as the rest of the squad.

Desperate for first-team appearances under Zidane, Rodriguez's career appears to be at a standstill after he made just 21 starts for the Champions League winner last season in all competitions.

After a 13-minute substitute appearance in Sunday's La Liga opener victory over Real Sociedad, Zidane spoke to reporters about Rodriguez's situation ahead of Saturday's clash with Celta Vigo.

"James is a Real Madrid player. When I answer these questions, it feels as though I want him to leave," Zidane said.

"But he is a Real player and he is under contract. It's true that he has played less minutes and that can be a problem. I always try to make every player feel important. James is the same as the others."

Under contract through 2020, Rodriguez languishes in footballing limbo, and Zidane admits that he hasn't addressed the issue with the World Cup 2014 breakout star.

"I haven't spoken to James lately, nor with any other player in particular," Zidane said. "I just speak to the group."

Rodriguez's situation has prompted speculation of a high-profile move to Juventus, Chelsea, or Arsenal, and while Zidane admits he has no interest in luring a player to the Bernabeu, he won't rule out a potential departure.

"Anything can happen until Aug. 31," the Frenchman said. "But no one will come, that's certain, but someone could leave."
