Real Madrid will kick off its 2016-17 La Liga adventure without the two players who combined for 59 goals last season.

On Saturday, Real Madrid named a squad of 19 players for its La Liga opener at Real Sociedad, omitting Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, as the two players are still in the process of recovering from injury.

Ronaldo suffered a knee injury in the final of Euro 2016 when Dimitri Payet caught the Portuguese phenom while following through on a tackle. Having not featured in any of Real Madrid's pre-season friendlies, the native of Madeira, Portugal, along with Fabio Coentrao, undertook a personalised training session on Saturday.

Benzema, meanwhile, is recovering from sacroiliitis on his right side, and Real Madrid announced that his "recovery will continue to be assessed."

Also missing from Real Madrid's journey to Socidead are Keylor Navas and Pepe. The goalkeeper trained separately using indoor facilities, while the centre-back started the session with the rest of the group.
