RCD Espanyol announced Wednesday the club has signed defender Martin Demichelis on a free transfer, penning the Argentina man to a contract for the 2016-17 season after his contract with Manchester City expired.
Demichelis, 35, spent the last three years with City, joining the club in 2013 out of Atletico Madrid, though he did not make any appearances with the Spanish outfit. He also enjoyed stints at Malaga, Bayern Munich, and River Plate.

Demichelis will need to compete for a starting spot in the middle of Quique Sanchez Flores' side with central defenders like Oscar Duarte and Alvaro Gonzalez.
