Ochoa joins Granada from Malaga on season-long loan

Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa will have a chance to kick-start his La Liga career with Granada, joining the Andalusian outfit from Malaga on a season-long loan, the clubs announced Friday.

Ochoa, 31, couldn't win over the starter's role during his two seasons with Malaga, playing just 11 league matches in that time - mostly in relief of No. 1 Carlos Kameni.

His contract with the coastal club is set to expire next June, meaning he may well never play for Malaga again.

He initially joined the Boquerones on the heels of impressive performances for Mexico in the 2014 World Cup.

Ochoa's now set to command more minutes at Granada, whose previous No. 1, Andres Fernandez, has returned to Porto after completing a season-long loan in Andalusia.

Ochoa was a member of Mexico's 23-man squad for the 2016 Copa America, suffering a historic 7-0 loss to Chile in the Round of 16 of the tournament.
