Barcelona's #WeAreAllLeoMessi campaign gets 'Simpsons' treatment

Reuters

Ay, caramba.

On Saturday, after Barcelona unveiled a farcical campaign in which the world was asked to "express its sympathy" for Lionel Messi, Twitter responded in the most appropriate way, with users publishing references from "The Simpsons" to satirically show their support.

Messi and his father were sentenced in 21 months in prison for tax fraud, but they aren't expected to spend any time behind bars as sentences of less than two years are usually suspended in Spain. Barcelona subsequently set up a campaign in support of the Argentinian phenom, encouraging supporters to use #WeAreAllLeoMessi.

Whether Messi thought he was in line for Metallica or got confused with the bear tax remains unclear, but the Argentian phenom didn't receive a great deal of sympathy on Twitter.
